Play Exercise

'Folded'

I imagined these folded wooden pieces like origami, to sit on my desk and function as a buildable, playable toy that was strange and otherworldly enough to inspire creative exploration help push me out of any mental block.

They can sit and serve as something beautiful, with wild angles and shadows, but can also serve as a playful mental exercise to imagine new and nonsensical worlds and habitations.

The images to the left are examples of this exercise, in which I allowed myself to arrange and rearrange these little blue pieces until I saw new spaces and moments. This has been an effective tool for me, particularly when writing.

Examples

While the potential forms of these little shapes generally remain in my head, sometimes they become more thoroughly reimagined.
